Life in Ropponmatsu

While the decision to move to Fukuoka, the economic and cultural hub of Kyushu, was a no-brainer, my decision to move to Ropponmatsu was, to be honest, not very well thought out.

I wanted to live in Chuo-ku, close to Tenjin/Hakata and close to Ohori Park. In exchange for getting rid of the car (Thank you Demio-chan!) we needed to be centrally located and near a big park.

Ropponmatsu is located on the southern side of Ohori Park and is only 5 minutes from downtown Tenjin by bus (less than 10 mins by bicycle). It is just outside of the bustle of the city center, and now that the university campus is gone, there is chance that it will start to develop a more robust commercial presence. I am looking forward to what will replace the monstrosity that was the KyuDai campus.

At any rate, my decision appears to have been a good one. The kids' school is 2 minutes away, there are lots of cheap bars and restaurants open late, and you can handle all your basic needs within a few blocks. A large number of buses run down the main drag and you'll never have to wait more than a few minutes for a bus (unless it's really late or really early).

If you are looking to setup in Fukuoka, be sure to check out Ropponmatsu. You won't regret it.
